Gildo Pietroboni
I've got a massive blossom on my Gildo Pietroboni plant. Does anybody here have experience with Gildo, and what is the potential size for fruit?

This was my first year growing Gildo Pietroboni and my largest was a little more than a pound and a half. I think they should get much larger but we had early high temps of 100 plus by late May this year and so my tomatoes started ripening a little early.

I grew it last summer , seeds from Neil G, who is mantioned in the above link, and got about one pound fruits, but I'm a bit conflicted about the shape b'c some say heart, some say beefsteak shaped. And if you look at the pictures at the above link I think you'll see what I mean. I didn't consider them to be hearts but it's being regrown this summer by one of the persons who does seed production for me b'c I had only a few fruits so few seeds, so couldn't offer it in my annual seed offer here. I did think the taste was excellent. Normally if I like a variety a lot I would send seeds for trial to those places where I know the owners well and trust them and I would have done so with this variety if I'd had enough seeds. Those places I send to, usually, are Sandhill Preservation, Tomato Growers Supply, Glecklers and Victory Seeds. I used to SSE list almost all my new varieties, but just am not sure if I'll continue to do that and if so, at what level, meaning all or some. As I've said before, I get more feedback on my new varieties from offering seeds here at Tville, so time will tell what happens in the future, both short andlong term. So fingers crossed I get more seeds this summer from his growout.

Carolyn I would definitely call it a heart. I did get a couple that were more like beefsteaks but for the most part they looked like very large hearts with slightly blunter tips. Mine was very productive and I got 17 tomatoes off of it. The first half dozen were well over a pound and they got smaller as the season progressed until the last couple which were pretty small. They don't have a lot of seed and make excellent sauce tomatoes because of meatiness of the flesh. The vine is heavier than on most hearts and gets big. I did save some seed from them if anyone needs a few. I found them about in the middle as far as taste goes for a heart. I will definitely try them again next year.
