Default Terrible new garden destroying Monster found in TN

It's horrible. It's scary. It was ruining many of the best tomatoes I have ever grown.

Here's the exciting story.

I was in the garden, working my way down row 5. As I got to the Cherokee Purple plants, this thing jumped out at me, displaying its horrific carnage and ugly gore. I was really shakened down to my foundation. I wasn't really prepared to come face to face with this critter. I instantly knew that my efforts for the year were facing a most terrible end. Something had to be done quickly. So, with total disregard for my own safety, I sucked up my fortitude, reached in, and managed to grab it. I was releaved it didn't bite my fingers off. It struggled a bit when I put it into the covered bucket, but quickly calmed down.

After bringing it up here to the house, where I felt I could control it while carefully ending its misery, I decided to take a picture of it so you folks would be able to recognize these things. Well, I took the first picture, and then to my surprise, while I was rewinding my digital camera, the danged thing started hatching another one. I quickly snapped another picture just before it attacked. I reacted with a meat cleaver and a large hammer and finally put an end to this episode. Man, I'm telling you that this was a close one. Beware and be watchful 'cause these things can do a lot of damage.

Enjoy

I clicked on your thread before logging in so I couldn't see the pictures right away. From your description, when I clicked on the link I was certain the picture was going to be a hornworm!

Hahahaha, that's great. What a way for a tomato to split.... It's too bad you can't stuff tomatoes for display on your fireplace mantle.

It makes me wonder if all Cherokee Purples are alien eggs from outer space; they certainly all tend that way in the looks department. And I've eaten so many...

On the bright side, none has yet burst outta my chest.

Just be careful out there, Ted!

Ted, you're my hero! For a moment, I was afraid these aliens might jump across the ocean and fan out over Europe! clara
