Default The Russian potatoes survived!

Some folks may remember I posted earlier about losing all my tomatoes and potatoes to late blight back in July this year. Having lost 600+ tomato plants was devastating enough, but in addition to this I also lost all the baby potato plants that I grew from seed I received from Russia this spring.

The plants were very tiny, maybe 4" tall max when they died.

Well... Yesterday I was sifting the soil in one of the beds where the poor things were, and I found some small 0.5-0.75" tubers! I was so happy, I dug the entire bed with my hands and found about a dozen of these. It is so great to realize that I have not lost them completely. I have recovered four varieties out of 7 I planted from seed. They are:

- Triumf
- Ausonia
- Krasa
- Dunyasha

The first three are commercial varieties, and Dunyasha is an old Kazakhstan/Russian tomato I got the seed from the breeder directly. I am so glad I have them!

The things are always not as bad as they look at the first glance...

good for you, you needed a break!

i'd be very careful using them for stock vs eating as LB over winters in potato tubers but i suppose you know that.
