A lot of ripening the last 2 days.

Thought I'd post a photo of my pickings from the last couple of days. I have to pick them early to keep the birds and animals from getting them. Biggest problem lately has been the catbirds.
Anyways, it will be time to make some sauce and distribute some to friends.
First picture is a view of all I've picked the last couple of days. The first one on the scale is a Stump of the World. The 2nd one on the scale is Earl's Faux. The 3rd is of 2 Jd's Special C-Tex. The 4th is my 2 lb Hoy. I have some more Hoy almost as large just starting to blush. Granny's Heart has been a delicious and good producer. I have 6 of it on the counter and they tend to run between 3/4 to just over a pound. Of all the cherry tomatoes there is no contest. Sungold F1 is the best tasting and the best producer. My daughter is polishing off between a pint and a quart of Sungolds per day. Black Cherry would be second best followed by Galinas. I have a lot of tasting and sauce making to do this week because there are lots more out there that are ripening.

I have 83 tomato plants. 25 in containers and the rest in the ground. Many have yet to ripen their first fruit and I also have 3 or 4 varieties that produced no fruit at all. If I didn't get another tomato this year I would still be happy with the results. This year has been a big learning experience thanks to all the info gleaned from Tville and all it's posters. I am already thinking about next year.

Glad your production is kicking into high gear- I'll be joining you in sauce making today and feel the same way about results so far regardless of whether the plants continue to produce.

Granny's Heart found its way into my garden this year, too, and it is a neighbor fave, but hasn't been as productive for me as some of the other hearts- it's given me 6 fruits since 7/24 and they've ranged in size from 2.6 to 15.9 oz.

JD's is my favorite dark so far but I've never gotten one as large as the two in your picture! Last year's fruits were mostly under 8 oz. and I got seeds from a different source to try this year- they are ranging from 4 to 14 oz.

Hope your season continues to give you more tomatoes than you can use! Thanks for sharing your pics.

Granny's Heart is by far the most productive heart I have. I think Ukranian Heart will come in 2nd, Kosovo 3rd, Anna Russian 4th, Reif Red Heart 5th and Brad's Black Heart 6th. Granny's Heart is better tasting than Wes, Anna Russian and Brad's Black Heart (the only other hearts I've tasted so far).
I will be cutting the 2 lb Hoy tomorrow so I will see how it tastes. It is a very late fruit setter but the end result seems to be good productivity once it gets going. Given a choice in similar tasting tomatoes, I will go with potato leaf plants. I am starting to have some blight problems after this last monsoon we just had and the potato leaf plants are holding up much better than the regular leaf plants.
I have 2 definate mystery tomatoes, both from commercial seed. My Stump of the World seed gave me half potato leaf plants and half regular leaf plants. I decided to plant one of each. The PL is correct but the RL plant produced a small 2 to 4 ounce oblate, slightly ribbed red beafsteak. It has more than 50 tomatoes on it at present. I should be tasting it tomorrow but it is obviously not Stump. Good producer though. My Fake Sophie's Choice (5' tall) has also produced 2 different tomatoes. One plant has a nice 8 ounce (tasting tomorrow) perfect red globe. The other plant has a slightly oblate 5 to 6 ounce fruit with concentric cracking. It has OK tomato taste, nothing special.
