I grew it for the first time this year and it is a terrific tomato with great flavor and production. Similar to Indian Stripe and the like but it was larger for me. I thought it was misspelled when I first got it; but after looking it up on a couple of sites realized the spelling was correct. Have no idea how it is pronounced so I just say "big chief".

This is a creation/cross of PapaVic/Bill, and you can find more about it at The ★★★★★★★★ (by looking or doing a search), but I'll not provide a link, because it would be scrambled anyway. (should be depot))

I also say Big Chief and I haven't even grown it yet.

Some background from the listings in the SSE 2011 Yearbook.

F2 seeds were sent by Ricky B of TN to Bill Jeffers. Ricky said it was a cross between Brandywine ( Sudduth) and an unknown other parent.

Bill worked with it and it's described as indet, PL, medium to large purple-pink/mahogany fruits, meaty, juicy with outstanding taste.

The above info from Suze who received seeds from Bill in 2008

Bill Minkey also listed it, seeds from Bill who listed it in the YEarbook in 2010 and Bill Minkey also thought highly of it. So I imagine that several folks got it from Bill's 2010 listing and as Tania notes below, also several at Tville as well.

I wanted to see if there were any places selling seeds so went to Tania's T-base, link above.

Apparently there are no commercial places listing it yet.

And please note that there are several versions of it around as Tania comments.

I to spelled it "Chief" at the beginning as that is the way "Cheef" is pronounced. Ami

I also pronounced it Big "Chief" but heard someone else say Big "Chef". This is my second year of growing it; original seeds from Bill Jeffers. It is a mahogany red from 4-16 oz with great taste and texture and good production. A favorite both last year and this year.

Big Cheeeeeef produced some very large fruit for me in 2010. Quality was excellent, yield moderate.
