honey drop cherry tomato
At the farmer's market in New Paltz last Sunday, an organic farmer (Four Winds Farm in Gardiner, NY) had one (just one) pint of a cherry tomato amongst the Sungolds I hadn't seen or heard of before. He said it was called Honey Drop, that it was an OP. He let me taste it - it was very good, with somewhat of a honeydew melon taste. Large cherry, in three shades: yellow, a light orange/melony shade, and light orange. He said it was a new variety for him. Anybody familiar with this variety? I found this description at Fedco Seeds' web site.
4106HD Honeydrop Cherry Tomato ECO (62 days) Open-pollinated. Ind. Many of the yellow or orange cherry tomatoes we’ve tried have failed the sweetness test. Not this one. Very sweet, juicy and fruity with almost a grape flavor, Honeydrop is one I keep going back for. Good early production of fruits the color of light honey. Our thanks to Rachel and Tevis Robertson-Goldberg from Crabapple Farm in Chesterfield, MA, who spotted this as a sport in their tomato patch, selected it and sent us the original seed. Bet you can’t eat just one! NEW |
