Default Pruning lower limbs...

I read recently that it's a good idea to prune the lower limbs of Indeterminate plants, so as to keep them off the ground and prevent splashing.

Is this the case?

If so, at what stage in the plant's development do we remove them, and how many do we remove?

I usually trim the bottom branches when they get so big that they either touch the dirt or get splashed when I water.

And another link on pruning. It also shows a trellising technique where you can use tomato clips to support the plant as well as training the plant around the twine as shown.
