I remember reading something interesting several years ago. Someone took ears of unshucked corn to various high schools in large cities. Only about 1 in 10 of the students they asked could identify it properly.

That reminds me of a story, sorry if it is a bit off topic.
My friend and I were at his house as his mom was getting ready for supper. We were in high school. She asked us to go to the store for her and get some corn. We jumped in my dad's car, which I was driving and headed off to the store. On the way we decided that it would be cool if we could get the job done and keep the money she gave us, only about 3 dollars. My dad used his car for company and personal purposes and had a large magnetic logo with his electric company's name on it that he would use when he was working, so we went to a sub-station (which was surrounded by corn fields) with the magnet on and got out of the car to collect our corn. When we got back we were feeling pretty smart. We did it more as a prank than anything, we weren't thieves. A couple minutes later we weren't feeling so smart. His mom said, "I know you stole this corn." We were astonished. How could she know? Well, needless to say, you can't buy field corn at the grocery store.

So we went back and got her what she wanted, but I think she was a little amused.

Yes, I thought it was only the boys who refused to bathe, until a middle school girl stood next to me at a business counter, wheweee! I have had to force my middle school age children, boys and girls both, to bathe on a regular basis.
Luckily most kids around here could still tell what corn is while it's in the husk, most have farmstands that sell it that way along the roadsides and we still have a "drive your tractor to school day", and the day of the junior fair judging there is no school.
