I trust everyone's tomatoes are growing?
I feel sort of silly having to show pics- would love to see how everyone elses season is doing...
So this was my first one started. (F2 of one of mine) It's starting to have some decent sized foliage. and starting to have a few flowers.. I have some others started a little later coming along as well. |

You'll have to wait a while to see how "everyone else's are doing. I won't even start my seeds till this coming weekend and that's a week early.
Like you though, I will be posting photos and I enjoy seeing others photos. Yours look Great! How far along are they? |

I sort of staggered my plantings this year. I have a hard time growing seedlings indoors for long periods of time.... that said, that one was started early- beginning of Feb (because I wanted to see how it would do).
These were started about the third week of Feb... which was about a week late. http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...28mar12017.jpg and then I have two more flats that I started REALLY late- like two weeks ago |

Very nice Jon.
I just planted my seeds for this season yesterday. After a nice run of 70 and 80 degree temp's we are now having low to mid 50's and freeze warnings overnight. Julia |

It seems for me that July and August divide the tomato season. I can try and beat that by planting early or by planting at the end of August and hoping for some by first freeze (which doesn't quite work). I suspect that a more northerly latitude would be advantageous during these months and I wouldn't have to put out as early as possible.
I had tomatoes on the brain when I had posted those pictures because I had made some crosses of mine (the one I showed pics of) and Megabite. Those crosses are now making fruit Sort of a long story. Maybe four or five years ago I made some crosses between Bush Goliath and Jetstar (because that's what I had growing). This was the result of that (I debated whether or not the crosses "took", but I decided that it had)... It had a small, one stem habit and tiny fruit. The only thing going for it was that it was "stumpy" and had a "blue/green" look. I crossed that with Italian Tree... mostly because it's what I had that had the largest foliage and fruit. The seedlings from that cross had a lot of variability. I'll show several with different "looks". Anyway, I picked this one and let it open pollinate. This was its fruit... (I could see the influence of Italian Tree for sure) http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...13jul11013.jpg So the F2 of that is what is pictured in my first post and what I have crossed with Megabite.... I'm not quite sure where I'm going with it. I had the 'misfortune' of comparing mine last year with Bradley (taste wise) and Bradley won hands down (especially as far as sweetness). Next year I will probably make a selection and let it open pollinate... but I know I'm going to try and get sweet in there eventually.... |
