Default When do you Spray Tomato leaves

Do you spray Tomato leaves to prevent bugs and fungus or do you wait for a problem before you spray?

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Don't wait for the problems to arise.

Immediatly! Start with a dip upon plant out of actinovate and a mcyo product. Then, within a day or two, coat them in daconil. Prevention is much easier that dealing with them once infected.

If you have had fungus problems in the past, then I would spray before problems return. I wouldn't spray for bugs unless you have an identifiable problem.

I start within a week or two after plantout. First up was a harpin protein (not a fungicide or chemical) - used to use Messenger till the company went out of business; now use a harpin from Gardens Alive; using that every three weeks seems to pump up the plants' immune system. Then I use Serenade (non-chemical), sprayed yesterday, but last night it rained so going to have to do it again) as a preventive fungicide. When the aphids come I use Hot Pepper Wax spray (again, non-chemical).

This year I bought some Actinovate also; I am "saving" that as a bigger gun for when the July-August thunderstorm season comes along and we're fighting humidity. I have never used that before.

From The Git-Go

Too many times you see new threads entitled;

What's wrong with my plant?

What are these spots on my leaves?

Why are my leaves turning Yellow.

etc,etc,etc,etc.

Why, because most people think once they have their plants in the ground or container all they have to do is water them and wait for the maters. Wrong answer!

DogsandDirt got it right. You don't wait for something to happen, you prevent it from happening. It starts from planting the seed, to raising the seedling and then giving it the best environment to grow in. And all along the way you hear about plant nutrition, beneficial bacteria and fungi, mycorrhiza, soil drenches as well as foliar applications of bioinsecticides and biofertilizers as well as there chemical brothers whatever they choose to use. There is a wealth of information here at TVille and all you have to do is go to the appropriate forum and read. If you can't find it ask as you have done and somebody will provide you the answer. Ami
