Just wanted to publicly thank full moon for donating a Fish Lake Oxheart seedling to my cause!
I'm looking forward to growing it near its home base. I've also sent a letter to Ted the Fish Lake Garlic Man to ask if he can tell me anything more about the tomato and/or plant, especially about its origins. Later in May, when there's a big heirloom seedling sale, I'll also ask all the local tomato gardeners I can find about it. Will report any further history info that I come up with. Thanks, Zabby |

My pleasure zabby.
So it got home ok? Looking forward to see if you can get more information about it. P.S. You almost didn't get it. I dropped it off at the wrong address! Got back in my car and double check the text message and yep I had put it on the porch two house down. |

I can't believe I am already looking for seeds for next year, but Fish Lake Oxheart is on my most wanted list - I'd even make a spot for it this year, if I could come up with a few seeds, although it's probably geting a little late now. Any suggestions as to where seed is available would be appreciated!

The best thing to do is to go to the Seed Exchange Forums, and post in the WANTED one that you're looking for some seeds of Fish Lake Oxheart. That's what that Foum is for and it' really best not to post in a thread about wanting seeds or as far as that goes PMing someone about them. The past two years I've offered seeds for Fish Lake Oxheart in my annual seed offer here at Tville, but all my seeds are put away right now. And the ultimate place to look if no one has seeds on hand for any variety you might want is to go to Tania's superb T base and when I know the name of a variety I use the alphabetical method of finding the page. http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Main_Page I didn't bother to check out the Fish page there and since the variety is so new I don't know which, if any, commercial places might be offering it right now. Hope that helps. Edited to add that I just saw you're in WA state and I do think it might well be too late this year , as you commented above.

I'm just bummed, both of my Fish Lake Oxheart (from Carolyn's offer) plants were pulled out due to a virus infection. And I was soooo looking forward to trying this variety....

I'm happy to report my Fish Lake Oxheart is doing well, as are most of my plants.
I'm looking forward to "repatriating" some of this tomato! I will have to take some fruit up to Fish Lake for a photo op.... I also sent a note to Ted the Fish Lake Garlic Man to ask if he could tell me anything more about this plant's history. He left me a phone message saying pretty much exactly what has already been discussed from his original letter; he confirmed he didn't breed it himself, but said he didn't remember more about where he got it. He did suggest another local organic farmer who grows a lot of heirlooms and I plan to try to that this summer. Z |

Checked on Fish Lake Oxheart today. It's the first plant in its bed of 10 to have set fruit (several other meaty if not officially "paste" types in there, I can't remember for sure other than several Amish Paste). Looking nice and healthy, not even too wispy.

My Fish Lake Oxhearts were the first to have ripe fruit this year (other than my dwarfs). That's out of 20 other heart varieties I grew this year.

That's great info Linda. How do you like the flavor of F.L.O. so far?

Ventura, I have only tasted one so far, since my neighbor wanted a few. Our tomatoes here won't get their best flavor until another week or two...too many cold, foggy, damp nights and mornings. The first one was about a 7.5/10, which is pretty good in June when most tomatoes are around 7.

Thanks Linda. We've had that same weather. I've only harvested a few Sungold, Snow White, Blondkopfchen, and Lime Green Salad so far. The bigger varieties are just staring to show color.
