^JamesL if you have amazon prime the 4lbs bag cost $14 + free 2 day shipping. The Neptunes store it cost $18. So if you would like a small qty the amazon prime selection is still cheaper than their store.

James, that's a very good price. I am confident that your tomatoes will love it.

Crandrew, the 4lb bag wasn't going to cut it, and I don't have prime.
I looked locally and couldn't find it. My calculation was 12 lbs just for tomatoes on planting.
Might mix in some in during the season if I think I need more.
So the big bag with no shipping seemed the best deal especially since it can be easily stored.

The first time I purchased crab shells, it was the 12 lb that comes in the round container. I used it generously for almost 150 ft^2 plus for more than 10 5 gal containers. Instructions recommend to use 3 lb/100 ft^2 for gardens. After I treat my raised beds at the beginning of the season with the 12 lb option, I buy the 4 lb package for use while the vegetables are growing. 4 lb doesn't sound like much; however, shells are so light that once you open the package you will be amazed at its volume.

Also, I am glad that you bought Technaflora seaweed. I am sure you will be surprised at its benefits, too.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to let you know that I came across a new liquid kelp extract. Brand is Grow More. It is cold-water treated and made from Norwegian kelp. Sounds exciting!

The best price per pound for the crab shells is to order direct from Neptune.
It is a 50lb bag, but free shipping. $78 for the bag, or $1.56 a lb.
4lb bag wasn't going to cut it and the amazon shipping costs for the 12lb bucket put the cost well over $3 lb.
I will use it in the flower beds if I don't like it with the tomatoes, but I doubt that will be the case.
James, did you try the seaweed extract? If so, are you happy with it?

By the way, today I found out that Amazon now offers Technaflora seaweed extract for $21.00 (which is already a very good price) with free shipping for Prime members. I think this deal is hard-to-beat.

Funny that you mention that as I was taking inventory in the garage last night and had the can in my hand. Haven't used it yet. I got it primarily for my next go round of carrots and peas, which are getting started mid July.
Only just started using a foliar - seastart 0-4-4, mixed with actinovate and some molasses. I dropped the excel out of this mix. Alternating weekly with Serenade.
I have yet to spray for insects, although I have been spraying the exterior of the containers with rosemary peppermint oil spray to keep the crawlers down.
I did use the crabshell in my mix though. Very little BER, only on a few of the Orange Banana fruit.
Wish I had more fruit set, but I don't imagine I will get more until our current heat wave breaks.
No ripe tomatoes yet, looks like I only have a week, maybe 2, to first harvest, and I should have quite a few.
Crabshell - I used 2 cups of it and 2 cups of lime in the mix. Thinking ahead to next season (already) I believe I will cut the crab shell back to 1 cup on a "recharge" of the current mix, as I don't think it will completely break down in one season.
