Ananas Noir true color?

I am growing Ananas Noir for the first time this year. Plants set HEAVY fruit load early and then are dying fast. This triple digit heat wave is stressing a lot of my plants, but the ones with heaviest early fruit set are the most affected...dry, crispy branches, stunted growth, then death.

Anyway, the fruit began to blush, so I picked some before the plants completely bit the bucket. I don't think they are fully ripe, but the color they are turning is NOT the dark purple color I was excepting. When I look at Tatiana's site I am seeing mostly the dark purple ripe fruit, but she has one pic of the color I am seeing...more of a dark orange/blushes of red on the skin. Haven't cut it open yet, not quite yet ripe.

Are there color variations for this variety or will mine darken up before ripening or is the color I am getting a result of the stress the plant has experienced???

I think my pic (click to enlarge) is pretty true to color you should normally get. These of course were grown under regular conditions. Hopefully, someone will chime in about variations. I've never seen orange tones to them.

Thanks Carolyn...I looked at those pics before...looks like a lot of variation in the ripe fruits. Unusual colors to say the least. That's what I love about growing new types..always some fun surprises and lots of learning.
