Zabby!
Cool that you have ripe tomatoes. I've only had Micro Toms so far. I'm not sure if Sophie's Choice or Matt's Wild Cherry will be next. I've got them at the shoulder level, Remy

Are Micro Toms the ones shown growing in a teacup? How do they taste? Sweet or beefsteak-ish?

I think I'll have to start celebrating Tomato Robin Day. I like the sound of that! I'm only 5' 1", so I begin trimming my plants when they get too far over my head. So far, that's only one plant, a Malachite Box (thanks for the seeds, Remy!). I picked the first fruit from that plant tonight and another is turning. It was fantastic, a keeper for sure!

Oh, Tomato Robin Day should come nice and early! We need more holidays in spring....
;-p Hope that Tomato Remy Day comes soon! Z, who's now picked two cherries and five Stupices total. Not much, but more than I've ever had in the first half of July before.... |

Can beans join in? I have scarlet runner beans that resprouted from the root that grew last year, but I'm not counting them even though they are well over my head and I've already picked a couple dozen. Of the 20 or so bean varieties I grew from seed, 6 are over my head. I think I first noticed their height last Monday, so Bean Habitat Day fell on Tomato Zabby Day. Give a big cheer for La Vigneronne, Helda Romano, Waterloo County Mennonite, Rattlesnake, Trionfo Violetto, and Blue Coco!

My Uncle Mark Babgy's are at 5.5 ft now and a Sweet Cherry 100 plant is pushing 7 ft currently.
Other than the smaller growing varieties I have growing everything else is at least 5 ft. Julia

It's nuts!!
I have it segregated by five feet on each side from other tomato plants and the thing is absolutely crazy. It's very very bushy and filled with cherry tomatoes. Each consecutive day I've been picking more and more tomatoes from this monster. I even have a truss near the top of the plant that is currently growing eight or so tomatoes. I've decided not to top it but allow it to continue it's skyward trek so I'm having to keep adding on more additions to the stake I have it on.

Habitat Gardener,
Including beans is a great idea, because it will mean more and earlier parties most years! I think it was Bean Zabby Day about two days ago (I started late, after all the toms were in)---only growing Emerite this year. I keep thinking if I had tall enough stakes we might be able to celebrate Bean House Day in a good year! Z |

Julia,
Assuming you're under 7 feet, I assume that belated Happy Tomato Julia Day wishes are in order! Crandrew, Sweet 100 is very prolific indeed. It grows trusses where the first toms are bigger and the ones beside then a little smaller, etc., on down the truss. I find it a reliable producer whatever the weather and quite tasty, so it's one of the few hybrids I usually grow. Its downsides for me are that 1) its fruits do tend to split in wet weather (not a problem this season!!), and 2) because of the wide range in fruit sizes makes it a bit more trouble to dry the fruits, which is what I do with extra cherry toms. I need to check every half hour or so and pick out the small ones that are dried well before the big ones are close. When I dry a batch of all Sungolds or all Black Cherries, they are all ready at about the same time. Most of my cherries will top 7 feet most years. I have ten-foot stakes for them, of which maybe 6 inches are in the ground, and in good seasons several varieties will hit the top and keep climbing each other.... Z |
