Default Would someone help me with seeds for Cardinal

I've just returned from the SSE's Annual Conference where I met a very nice elderly gentleman from Minnesota. He was asking if anyone knew where to get seeds for Cardinal. I did not have it nor heard of it but told him that I was sure I would be able to get some info from the knowledgeable and generous folks here.

I've looked it up and now know that it does exist. Is there anyone who would be willing to share a few seeds that I could share with this gentleman? He was estatic to think that it could be located. Apparently he lost or planted his last seeds and forgot to save some.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually the best place to ask for seeds here is in the Seed Exchange in the wanted subforum but you're here now so about all I can say is that yes, it does exist and if you go to Tania's page for it you'll find that Victory Seeds lists it for 2012 and has been listing it in previous years as well:

So if no one here has seeds for you at least you know they can be purchased from Mike's Victory Seeds.

Hope that helps.

Victory Seeds is "OUT OF STOCK". However, a quick check found seeds for sale at the link below.

http://www.newhopeseed.com/cardinal_tomato.html

I only found one listing in the current SSE Yearbook.

Hope this helps.

Ted that site is owned by David Pendergrass, the source of the wonderful variety Tidwell German, and whom I know a bit, and the source to Mike at Victory of other vartieties as well. A great site.

I saw the SSE listing for Cardinal as well, but the size is off, the source is Andrey from Belarus and probably refers to the variety Tania calls Kardinal at her page which is a heart of Russian origin.

Carolyn,

I knew there had to be a different location to request them but for the life of me could not remember where.

Anyway, before I even attempted to come here I looked in the SSE Yearbook and did not find them. Of course, I looked under the "red" section just assuming that with a name like Cardinal it would be a red tomato.
I had also looked at the Victory sight and saw that it was sold out.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Well, it is a red variety and the listing that Ted and I are referring to is in the red section, but for the reasons I mentioned above it's not the old variety Cardinal that you're looking for it's Kardinal, a Russian variety.

So get some seeds from David, grow out a few plants, save seeds and perhaps reintroduce it to others here at Tville if you have time and that interests you. And buy two packs so you can send one to the gentleman you referred to. You do have his contact info, right?

Edited to add that David has some other interesting varieties as well that might interest you, I mean why not pick up some others if only buying two packs? (smile)

Sundrops, if you can wait till a bit, I can send you some Kardinal seeds. I'm growing it this year, but due to our cold and rainy weather, there's a delay in ripening. I've got my seeds from an Estonian seller:

BTW, there's another variety called Cardinal Mazarini, but I haven't grown it yet:

Clara, the Kardinal you and I are growing is different from the Cardinal Sundrops is looking for. Now that I got my home computer fixed I can start posting some more pictures. Ami

Several Cardinals/Kardinals - that's bad! And BTW, the Kardinal I'm growing this year, looks a bit different to the Kardinal I have grown some years ago (seeds from grunt - it was soooo good!). I shall have to revive Dan's old seeds next year - fortunately I've saved some seeds, but had thought it was easier to use fresh seeds, those from Estonia. clara

PS: Ami, I'm looking forward to your pictures!
