I found Mule Team and Stump of the World to be very consistent in large beefsteaks. Chapman too, all produced tomatoes well over a pound, but Mule Team was the clear winner in production. It had a great flavor, not very sweet, but excellent for a lot of dishes. I'll grow Mule Team every year from now on, I was very impressed with it in every way.

So far this year my largest is a 1.80 pound Red Siberian. I just picked 2 Cherokee Purples I didn't weigh but are easily over 1.5 pounds each. Don't see any 2 pounders out there but I didn't grow any of the big guys this year like Wes, Big Zac, and Large Pink Bulgarian that have consistently topped the 2 lb. mark for me.

I don't grow any of the famously huge varieties---Big Zac etc.

Sicilian Saucer produces consistently large fruit for me, and tasty ones.

Just picked on that was just shy of 2 lbs--- it was 1 lb 14.8 ounces.

And it was beautiful!
Perfectly shaped, evenly ripe. (I've got lots of 16-to-20-lb oxhearts that are UGLY suckers).

I have a photo from a couple of years ago when I picked two Sicilian Saucers like that on the same day and made a 7-pint batch of salsa (the recipe takes 8 cups, usually about 4 lbs) out of just those two toms.

I haven't grown any large varieties before, but this year I got Virginia Sweets as a bonus pack when I ordered some seeds. I put out two plants and have harvested about six fruit averaging about 1.5 pound so far, and there are about eight more still on the plants. They are rich, tangy, juicy but not at all mealy or mushy, even if a bit over ripe. They have earned a permanent place in my garden!

is this the only yellow/red bi-color type tomato you have grown? i've not been happy with the one i have Mr stripey- apparently not a fan favorite, and dont kinda scared off the whole bi-color thing. i shouldnt say all of them but at least the ones that look the same....yellow/red.

i do have one called guernsey island described as "dark bronzy green with red stripes" from the seed company which i say is a good description. i like it a lot so i guess i'm not anti bi-color. i've also grew vintage wine which is a much diff looking red/yellow which i like a lot more that mr stripey. none of these are very large fruited though

Yes, this is the one and only bi-color I've ever grown. In fact, it's the only non red/pink tomato I've ever tried.

My favorite large tomato this year was KBX. I only got one and am going to grow it again next year anyway. That's how good it was! Oh my gosh, juice running down your chin, I'm in heaven, good.

I don't know that it gets super big, but anything that reaches a pound is large to me.

My biggest one this year is Striped German. It's a fruity, sweet, juicy tomato. It's so fruity that it doesn't work for me in tomato sandwiches (I use red onion and sometimes avocado on a seedy bagel or herb roll) because it's too juicy and has no tanginess. I compared this one and a couple others (Thessaloniki, Croatia Joanna YMCA) with Kellogg's Breakfast, though, and I was surprised how bland KB seemed in comparison. Thessaloniki is sweet with some tanginess, and Croatia Joanna YMCA is my favorite tomato-sandwich tomato, with wonderful complex flavors and just the right amount of juiciness.

The tomato in the photos was about 5x5 inches and weighed 1 lb. 9 ounces. The subsequent ones weren't quite that size, but are still much larger than my other tomatoes.

Big Zac for competition and taste. I'm waiting on one which I hope will beat my personal best this season of 2.86 LBS.
