Default Newbie question - Brown coloring showing up on tops of tomatoes

Hello all:

It just started to get cooler at night here in Virginia. Could that be affecting this late planted tomato?

Brown coloring just started showing up on tops of tomatoes ...

How cool does it get? Are the brown areas bruised/inedible, or is it just cosmetic? I wonder if the brown may be from low temperatures. In my garden, the lowest temps seem to occur just before dawn.
