Default Dazed and confused

In the process of pulling some plants and shutting the garden down for another year. I had made it to the Grubs "Pink", and decided to pull it. There was one ripe tomato, so I plucked it. And took a bite. And it was darn near the flavor of a brandywine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go figure. Neglected, and underwatered for the last few weeks, must have appealed to this plant. From that one tasting, it rated a 9 or so, while all previous out of pretty good production, rated far lower. The mystery of tomato flavor, hmmmm.

what is the size of the tomatoes your getting from that plant?

Kenny,

I often find that when I neglect tomato plants, they produce the tastiest fruits - I am guessing it happens because of the stress, perhaps all the starches convert to sugars?

I intentionally stop watering my GH tomatoes ~6-8 weeks before the end of the season, they get absolutely no water. The flavor is to die for.

Jeff, I would say 9-20 0z on avg. Yes, Tania, I quit watering everything too, about mid August, and things got pretty dry, which I figured would concentrate flavor, but this was still a surprise for the Grubs pink. Very few tomatoes left in my early garden, with about half pulled up. Left the Cowlicks, and Stump, and spudakees in, hoping for a few more. My paste garden, which was planted 2 weeks later is hust starting to ripen. So sauce making and canning to commence soon.

Mine are not many (grew it in a small container this year), but they
are the usual green with an amber blush. I expect the usual
excellent flavor.

I got an RL plant one year that was the usual size (compact) for
GMG, but it was a good two weeks later to produce ripe fruit.
Still green when ripe, though.

My Grubs are delicious. My husband loves them, flesh is sweet, a bit spicy, and has some fruit undertones, in his opinion - plum I will plant it again for sure.
