Please help with these tomatoes
Hi everyone,
I received these seeds in for the swap and cannot find any information on them anywhere. The person that sent them in received them in a trade, then grew them out. They were labelled exactly the way they were labelled when she received them. I was able to get a brief description, but am hoping the experts here will be able to tell me a little more. * Mosage - described as mid season, medium size * Big Salad - late season, bigger than a cherry, tasty * Early Pink from Far East - late season and more or less a beefsteak I am hoping to find out if there is any possibility any of these are hybrids. If not, wanting to know......indeterminate or determinate, color, size, type (cherry, beefsteak, paste, etc) I found reference to Big Salad Ukranian, but do not know if that is the same as big salad and I don't want to assume anything. I like to make sure names are correct before they got passed along to other participants...and I need to be sure these could not have been collected from hybrid plants. Any help on these varieties would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.....Heather |

You're welcome Heather,
I have searched about the other two, no luck so far with Big Salad, and here what I got so far with Early Pink From Far East Origin: Soviet Union (Russia) First mention in publication: Gardeners Dictionary, Edition 8. London - April 16, 1768 Fruit Colour: Red Fruit Shape: Round The Variety was tested at EUSOL and have a picture of it, but it have conflicting results, for example plant type, 2 Indeterminate and 1 determinate Also, seeds were donated to IPK Gatersleben by Seed Savers Exchange, I have searched the store but it didn't have it Plus, the seeds looks like been traded around in the forums on the internet since 2009 Hope this will help Sources: * EUSOL (Test Data, and Photo) * IPK Gatersleben (Origin, Donor, Publication) * Hausgarten (Photo) |

Wow! Thanks OddBall. Don't know how you managed to dig so deep to find all this information. I tried searching several resources and regular google searches came up empty.
This helps a lot. Thanks again |

Heather,
Re Early Pink from Far East - there is a Russian tomato called "ДАЛЬНЕВОСТОЧНЫЙ розовый" which translates as 'Pink from Far East' (see http://dacha-market.ru/inernet/5779/...1/?pos=1266565), it was developed in Siberia, so it could be possible someone added 'early' to the name... It is described as a pink fruit up to 400 grams, so it is a large tomato fitting your description. I really hate it when names are translated, as it is very hard to tell (if not impossible at all) what was the original tomato variety. Sigh.

Oops, forgot the transliteration for the name: It is Dalnevostochnyi_Rozovyi (http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/D...ochnyi_Rozovyi).
I grew it in 2008 and liked it very much.
