Brad, if I had your schedule, I'd probably have to hire a couple dozen helpers to keep my "To Do" list straight. My brain gets scattered at the drop of a hat. I have learned to take copius numbers of notes.
My B&R seeds have been isolated to just my gardens, and again, I got them originally as a "Freeby" that accompanied my order from Baker Creek. It has been very stable from year to year here. Anyhow, let's give this problem one more go and see if the mystery can be solved. Ted

I find the confusion between Black and *Red* Boar and
Black and *Brown* Boar unlikely. I have not grown Black and Red Boar yet (I have seeds from ContainerTed), but I have grown Black and Brown Boar, and I never saw that red background tint that I see in people's pictures of Black and Red Boar in this thread and others. The background tint (behind the green stripes) was brown in my ripe Black and Brown Boar fruits. They looked like green-striped Black Prince fruits. (The difference I think would be green gel in the Black and Brown Boar fruits.) I expect that they are different and have been from the beginning, and that whoever first thought they might be the same cultivar was confused. Side-by-side growouts should tell for sure.

a clear memory of standing in a particular place, looking at a fruit in clear sunlight on a particular plant, though. And its color was predominately brown, not red.) Here is a picture of Feldon's of Black and Brown Boar, and it has the red tints: http://www.feldoncentral.com/garden/...heartshape.jpg As far as I know we both got seeds from Suze. A mystery to be resolved.

Not sure if this is helpful or more confusing, but I can add that I received "Black and Red Boar" seeds from wintersown.org in 2010 and grew them out and saved seed that year. I sent some of the saved seed to Heather's swap in 2010 and in 2011, so it's possible that those of you who received seed from Heather's swap may have gotten the seed from me and thus a generation down from the stock at wintersown.
I still have the original envelope from WS with the label (double checked and it does state "Black and Red.") I have 8 seeds left in it as well as my saved seed in a different envelope. Maybe I'll try growing out seed from both this summer and see how the tomatoes look (couldn't find any photos from my 2010 grow out). |

HappyGardener,
I got my "Black and Red Boar" seeds from Heather's swap in 2011 (they were marked as "Bonus seeds"). So, most likely, 2012 pictures of tomatoes I have on the initial post were grown from your seeds. Anyways, whatever they are, I love them!

I did send them as bonus seeds in 2011 and as "regular" swap seeds in 2010 so it sounds likely that they came from me. I'm glad that you like them.

Okay, dug out my archives to give you whatever extra info I could....in 2010 I grew three bicolor tomatoes that would even remotely resemble the picture posted...berkeley tie dye, black & red boar, and chocolate stripes. I have never had seed for/grown black & brown boar. I had *thought* that in 2010 when I received the Black & Red Boar seeds from WS I did a little Googling and had seen them described (as distinct from Black & Brown Boar) on Wild Boar Farms' site, but it is possible that I am misremembering that.
I will say that I took great care in marking my plants and any fruit from which I saved seed. Whenever I have any doubt about fruit/seed, I don't save seed, so the seed sent from me to Heather's swap came from the plant/fruit grown from the Black & Red Boar seed that I received from WS. HTH dispell some of the mystery at least. |
