Books, I love books, books on tomatoes etc.

I know this sounds crazy (and please do not call in those men with the pretty white coat that ties in the back on me) ....But I love books, I collect them, I read them and a good 250 page book lasts me a week (if I try to take my time....I CAN and HAVE done it in a day). I do not like fiction. I love cookbooks, books on gardening, etc. I also have quite a selection from the 1800's.
But the reason I posted this in THIS forum, is I would love some winter tomato reading. The one thing I miss out here is used book stores. I read too much, too fast etc. to pay 20.00 and up for a book. If I get in a serious reading mood (typically in January) and bought all the books I read.... NEW (instead of used....like I could do in California, Arizona, Ohio and Indiana) I would spend over 500.00 in a month. Ebay, is crazy for shipping costs on books.... I think people forgot what MEDIA MAIL was for.
Does anyone know of a place I get several books (or more) online. about tomatoes (heirlooms etc)? USED? inexpensive etc.
PS, I have already been through the library.... a small library does not last someone like me very long.

I too am like you, and could read books on tomatoes and tomato growing from morning to night, the only problem is there are not all that many books on the subject in the world today, I can think of only about twenty offhand-that goes into it in any real depth.

Check out the following website. they have e-books for download. One in particular is "Lets Grow Tomatoes" for $10.95 and some other interesting books as well. I have Lets grow tomatoes and it has some good info in it concerning all aspects of tomato growing. It's 53 Pages and illustrated.

Check out The Tomato Festival Cookbook, one I own - good recipes, historical info and some nice line drawings of tomatoes from late 1800s and early 1900s

I agree -- try Amazon.com. I have gotten good deals on all kinds of hard to find and out of print used books.

Missoula is about 113 mi from you...Like most college towns , it is overflowing with second hand book stores. Might not be lots of gardening books, but should be some interesting books...Just over the Higgins bridge is a good place to start...
In case you want a road trip...If your roads are open that is...Quite a storm up here, roads reopening and snow plows whipping past the barns.

Many years ago, when data CDs were a new thing and CD readers cost thousands of $, I saw advertised a CD which had the entire country's telephone directories on it, White Pages and Yellow Pages. I forgot what the price was. I bought one because it says:"You will save 320 trees if you purchase this CD."
I bought also another CD which has a thousand classic books on it, including "War And Peace". I don't know how many more trees I saved.

I don't think these CDs will be on the Antiques Road Show soon.

I am going to check out amazon and the download site. I do not know why I forget about Amazon. I always use them to order some of my cheeses in their gourmet section. But for books I forget. I also made a note of what people have read and are reading.

Jeanne, that sounds like a great idea. I hope the snow melts and we can leave in the next few days. We had quite the snow the past night as well, but we are not far from you. Its 10 degrees outside (after being in the 50's yesterday) and its almost 11 in the morning. I cant even find the car. hehehe.

I joined a cook book club and got a bunch of amazing cookbooks for dirt cheap, and then only had to buy 2 more at the regular(discounted) rate, and then I cancelled. I have also gotten books fairly cheap on Amazon.
I don't get to read as much as I would like. I have a hard time pacing myself and get engrossed in a book and then nothing else gets done around the house besides the basics for survival.
I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy in about a week and a half, and I have three kids. Yeah, my kids were clean, fed, and clothed, but don't ask about the state of my house during that time. When I went on a little vacation in April without my kids, I read 4 books in 8 days---and that was in between sight-seeing and ect. Someday I'll develop more discipline and be able to read a chapter a night, but until then I'll stick to readind books with my kids. (My son brought Harry Potter home and we were reading it together---Silly me had to read ahead and finish the book, now I have to re-read it with him.)
I just remembered my Uncle owns a used book store in Anaconda, atleast he did last I heard. I don't know what he has though. It might be worth checking out.
