Default 21-0-0??

Had a customer today ask me for Ammonium Phosphate 21-0-0. I gave him some lawn fertilizer made by howard Johnson we sell. He wants to put it on his tomatoes. His wife told me he's been growing tomatoes for 40 years so "he knows what he's doing". Anybody ever use 21-0-0 on their tomatoes?? I never would.

Wouldn't ammonium phosphate be something like 20-20-0? Do you mean ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulfate

I never would either. Might give it a burst of growth in the spring though.

Depends how much he uses and his soil fertility. My garden soil in NJ tested very high in phosphorus and potassium, so I only needed to supplement nitrogen. I used high nitrogen lawn fertilizer (29-0-4) in small quantities to lightly boost the nitrogen when needed. I have also used blood meal (13-0-0) for the same purpose.
