Dyna-Gro Pro-TeKt - Anybody Using?
Just picked up a gallon at my local Hydroponics store based on their recommendation. I am trying to lessen the use of pesticides / fungicides this Season.
The literature claims: Pro-TeKt 0-0-3 The Silicon Solution liquid supplement supplies higher levels of potassium and silicon to help plants build stronger cell walls. The stronger cell walls provide a Pro-TeKt-ive barrier against piercing-sucking insects and invading fungi. Applying Pro-TeKt 0-0-3 on a regular basis will minimize or eliminate the need for pesticides and fungicides. Additional benefits include increased stem strength and leaf positioning of plants, which improves photosynthesis; increased heat, drought and cold tolerance, plus longer lasting leaves and blooms. Use Pro-TeKt 0-0-3 as a supplement with any fertilizer to provide non-toxic preventative protection against fungal infections and insect infestations. Recommended for all plants. I am adding 1 ounce into my SWC water reservoir every other week. The SWC holds a constant 5 gallons of water. Has any one had good / bad experience using it? Me! I use it every year, I love it! I use it once a week. It really helps with stress, disease resistance/tolerance and most of all flavor. Plus a little extra K as fruit develop and ripen is always a good thing in my book. I use it at a rate of 1 tbs per gallon.

Thanks for the reply Damon. Should I increase my application rate to once per week?

2 tbs = close to an oz. How many gallons of water are you allowing in your reservoir when full? I would try every other week and go from there.

Ray,
I am trying it this year as well. Going to do a few tubs with fert strips, a few with dyna foliage pro and a few with Urban Farms Veggie and switch to their Tomato once flowering starts. Planning to start adding the pro tekt to the dyna tubs once flowering starts. |

I used it for a couple of years but ran out last season. I only used it on my seedlings as most of my plants are transplanted into the ground. It did seem to aid in sturdier plants but I saw no signs that it helped with aphids on my bell pepper seedlings.

Used it last year in my containers and will use again this year. Used as a preventative drench for disease and stress. Do a google on potassium silicate and you will find a lot of information especially from the cannabis sites. The link below originally peaked my interest in Silicon. Ami

Ami,
That was a good read, thanks. The comment about soluble Si being beneficial to cucumbers for disease protection and higher yields jumped out at me. Which means I will need to feed them some as well.... |

Potassium Silicate is supposed to work as a foliar on Powdery Mildew on Cukes too, though I haven't tried it.
Raises the PH of the leaf surface from what I understand, similar to what bicarbonates do. Probably shouldn't use too much in the Tainers, it might raise the PH there too. |
