bacterial speck and spot
i had one or both of these last season. do i have to do any special cleaning to my cages before planting this year? i left my cages outdoors along the side of the house all winter away from the garden and free of any plant debris

Solarizing your soil might help. I did mine, last year, but it wasn't because of Bacterial Spot or Speck. I left those behind at my old house, which oddly enough, is only about 7 miles away. I was starting to see a lot of Early Blight and after 6 years, I just figured it was time to let the soil rest for a year. We shall see how that works out, with this year's crop, I suppose.
