Dr. Lyle is the only variety I have not grown. All the rest are very nice. I will not make a choice. You need to report which one you liked best. Then go for another bunch of new ones next year and the year after. Pretty soon your head will spin trying to figure out what to plant not to leave out your favorite. Have fun.

Crnkovic Yuguslavian
Eva Purple Ball
Dr. Lyle
Neves Azorean Red

They all make my top 25 list, out of many hundreds of varieties trialed.

Dr. Lve Apple

Old German produced numerous tomatoes with the appearance of wrinkled baby face. Absolutely useless tomato.

Just noting that when Joe Bratka first introduced Eva Purple Ball, which was indeed a family heirloom, not like many that Joe introduced that were given fictitious histories saying they were heirlooms, it was called Eva Purple Ball. And I was perhaps one of the first to get seeds from Joe and grew it out in the early 90's.

Somewhere along the way someone started putting an apostrophe there as in Eva's, which is not correct.

A similar situation, in a way, has occurred with the variety Hillbilly, which someone somewhere started posting Hillbilly, aka Flame.

Flame is not the same as Hillbilly, and the reverse. All they have in common is that both are gold/red bicolors.

Hope that helps,

Carolyn

Old German is one of three types on my list that I have grown once before. I found it to production to be fair and the taste to be excellent. Interesting how results can vary from different locations or seasons. Let's see how it goes this year.
