Default Interesting site

This site is in german so I guess it would be a lot more interesting if I knew how to run it through a translater, but it has a lot of really great pictures.

I scanned thru quickly and just would say that many names are mispelled, even when written in German, and quite a few colors are wrong, as in RED for Omar's lebanese, and others had wrong colors as well, but what I loved was the way Silvery Fir Tree was Ided, as, I forgot the first word but it was I think something like Silvery FIRE THREE.

But I did see several varieties that not too many have grown, and two of my green when ripe ones are there, as in Charlie's Green and the other one was, I think Grandma Oliver's, both of which are darn good, in the face of the recent onslaught of green when ripes.

And it's always nice to see lots of pictures but I still think Reinhard Kraft's site has the most pix, by far, and his are labelled correctly b'c he writes and speaks English fluently.

Sorry, amideutch

It looked like German to me. After I looked at it a little closer I think its Swedish or another of the Scandinavian languages.

It was fun to look at the pretty pictures.

There was a thread about Old Brooks tomato and it was interesting to see it.

LoreD, Nothing to be sorry about. Just wanted to make sure you knew so you wouldn't go off on a wild goose chase with all the free translation sites out there. The one word I had a problem with was "Klimmer" and the only thing I could come up with was "Climber". Try the translater I gave the url for. Ami

I wondered aboujt that myself Ami, but was so intent on wanting to believe it was German I guess I goofed.

I do read and speak a bit of German, and I did understand most of the blurbs, but the names got me.

And I saw gel or geel I think it was for yellow whereas it should be otherwise if German and I saw rood for red when it should be rote, in German, as I recall.

With my German it's a matter of use it or lose it and I've pretty much lost it over the years.

A couple of other interesting things catch my attention regarding this "Dutch" collection (the collector lives in Belgium but maintains his collection in the Netherlands from what I understand of it).

There are a few Tom Wagner tomatoes in there, including a couple with their original names as released by Mr. Wagner and some with names dubbed onto them by other folks after Tom transported seeds overseas. In that regard I find it interesting that it is a Dutch collection.

Another thing that amazed me when I first saw this Website linked from another forum, the young fellow who maintains this collection is a 16-year old student! And he has a long long list of tomatoes he maintains that are not pictured in this particular photo collection.

He's also looking to acquire many more varieties to propagate in 2007. His English use at the other Website where I saw his posts suggests he's struggling a little with our language, but his enthusiasm indicates he might be grateful and eager to adjust his variety name spellings and descriptions to reflect his obvious intent to do a scholarly tomato growing project.

For example, here is some of what "Angelo" has to say:

"Hellow, I'm new hire,... Mi name is Angelo and i'm live in Belgium,...Europe. I'm 16 years and i'm gowing tho a gardening scool. Tomatoes are m favorite vegtebel. I hope ou wil untherstand my message,...
Every ear i cultivate 230 tomato varieties.
This is my list for the next year.
I have olsow a website were you find several pixtures
of tomatoes, its in Netherlands but,.... http://www.tomatentuin.com "

Angelo's above message is followed by a huge long list of varieties he intends to grow in 2007. I didn't think including that list here serves any purpose since you can read it at the Website where Angelo posted it if you are interested.

I'm sure most of us who are able would be willing to help this 16-year old student with his worthy project ... like cleaning up his minor errors and such.

Send him an email and tell him to join! I'm sure we'd
have no problem with him posting in Dutch. I know someone here will take the time to run it through a
translator for the rest of us!
