Ron,
Of course I remember. It killed off my entire Dwarf project TWICE. Then I had a solid month of completely saturated ground with standing water! By the time the ground dried out we were already having highs in the 90's Shortly after that it hit 100 a couple days!

I couldn't catch a break this spring at all. And so far the only ripe fruit I have gotten is a single solitary sun gold F1. Even my carbon isn't doing anything, unlike your carbon copy.

The good news is I have a ton of The Miracle BPF fruit set and something told me this spring to plant more than just 2 of them as I did most other varieties I trialed. So hopefully that early small determinate will get me by until the others finally start producing. A bit small for a slicer, but usable in a pinch. Also a couple Native sun managed to set before the heat hit.

PS Last week was the first week I had both blooming plants and reasonable weather conditions for fruit set, so next week I will be looking closely for signs I may actually have a crop this year! Crossing fingers and toes.

We picked 34 more today. Add to that the 95 I mentioned previously and I have picked 129 in that one patch with 6 plants.

Today I'll give away more.

I just got mine in the beds last weekend. They were nice sturdy plants about 15 inches tall and really look good. Temp here today is 102 and will be in high 90s for a while yet. If I can just keep them alive and growing I think there will be time for them to make before frost. I have already made plans to plant some next season in the Spring and give them a real chance at doing well. I will post in this thread as the Summer progresses on how they are fairing in brutal heat and humidity.

Big Beef was my best red tomato in my high tunnel. I tried over a dozen varieties of reds, and it was the winner.

I grow them annually, and along with sungold, they are my only non heirlooms and both are year in and year out the most productive plants. The taste is very good. For anyone who thinks they taste as good as "heirlooms" that is your opinion, but I disagree. One, heirlooms have a huge variety of tastes profiles that at a minimum are different than BB. Those that come from the brandywine line (suddeths, cow licks, others) are in my opinion unbeatable. A big beef is fabulous on a burger or in things, but, if you are going to slice, salt and pepper, and eat it as a side item, it falls in the very good category when grown under ideal circumstances. It doesn't ever deliver a knock your socks off, transcendent experience that some heirlooms do, in my opinion.

Another 61 were picked out of that same bed today. The total was 129 at last count. Add the 61 today and I'm up to 190 on that one bed of 6 Better Boy and Big Beef. I can't eat them this fast and I'm running out of new people to give them to.
