Levino!
I remembered reading that "Levino" had won the CHOPTAG Tomato Tasting a few years ago so I decided to try it this year. I have two plants and I am so impressed with the way they are still setting fruit in this heat and humidity. All my other large fruited plants have shut down for now and Levino is the only thing producing besides the cherries. We had a chilly spring and it sort of seemed like we went from winter straight to summer. The last 4-6 weeks we've been in the 80's and 90's each day. It's not setting like it was in the spring but I'd say around 50%, which is way better than any other beefsteak out there! Anyone else grown it in the past or growing it this season?

Oh yeah, you're probably wondering what it tastes like. Sorry to say I don't know yet. I picked the first one last night and it still needs a day or two sitting on the counter, but I will be sure to tell you when I try it!

We had the first Levino last night with dinner. Very good, strong, old fashioned tomato flavor. I also like that it had a thin skin. So I think this one is a keeper.
The plants are pretty well behaved and quite compact for an indeterminate variety. Very healthy. The most impressive thing though is the way it sets in heat. I'm very happy about that.

Shelleybean,
That was the 2006 CHOPTAG Taste Fest. Dave Z out of Columbus brought it. Would you expect anything but a great tomato from a CHOPTAG winner?
