Large beefsteak slicers, late summer.
Since many of us are in the doldrums and hot, dry part of summer, this is a good time to ask this.
My favorite tomatoes are the large beefsteak pink and red slicers. (Some actually look orange before reaching full maturity.) What pink and red beefsteak slicers are doing the best for you now? This includes the different strains of Brandywine, not just a generic "Brandywine." I want to make a list now, in the hot and dry part of the year, naming specific varieties, that are actually in your gardens and still pumping out good, plump red and pink beefsteak slicing tomatoes. Especially from those of you in typically hot regions of the US. I guess in a way I'm starting my 2014 grow list now. Thanks! Don

I've grown Red Brandywine and Beefsteak. They did really well for me in N.E. Texas.
I mulched and the garden is shaded from the West (from 4:00 on). Big Beef is good too. I grow only the OP's. Unfortunately, this year, I accidentally burned my plants with my manure. I didn't let it sit or compost enough. Sometimes, I'm my own worst enemy...... |
