Narnian, I don't know why people can be so cruel to those they don't understand or who are different in one way or the other.

It's a shame, because they miss out on a lot of really cool people that way! I hope you have at least a few good people around who value you for who you are!

This forum is a nice way to share our interests with other people without our little "quirks" getting in the way. That is one blessing of the internet! It does tend to give a little equality to those who may not find it so easily in their daily life.

This is a very interesting subject. Both my DW and I are very much into gardening, she with flowers, me with stuff I can eat. So for each other we are perfectly normal, every bit of eccentricity (tm Worth) about how much time and effort we put into our "hobby."

To others, we don't come out as weird (although it wouldn't bother us the least), or maybe they're too nice to show it. We do look dedicated and passionate into what we do, and others enjoy some of the fruits of our labor. (Composting would be the exception.)

To each their own.

Whether we are categorized as weird, unique, or eccentric doesn't matter one iota.
I think Tomatovillians as a group are some of the happiest and most laidback and understanding people I have ever met or conversed with on many subjects. I think we all have that passion to do better in what we do. If your garden does bad,then you want to do better. If your garden does great,then you want to do even better. I think that if you dont have a passion for what you are doing then do something else that you do have a passion for. Yeah I know my sentence structure is weird but so what if I get my point across. This group of people is weird, unique, and eccentric and happy and that is what I love about it.I have rambled enough for now.

Ok I've always been known to march to a different drummer. I've been called weird, wacko, nuts, insane, crazy, unique, one of a kind (thank god for that), and many of those with derision and condesension (sp?) Do I care? Nope....could give a flying fish.

The fact that I can become obsessed with things that I am truly interested in sends some people running for the hills. Or has my family referring to my garden as my "g. d. jungle". Remy can attest to the size of my former backyard around the pool at my Dad's place.....where I used to have up to 160 containers of varying sizes....so yeah....I guess it was a bit of a "g. d. jungle" to some. But it was my "g.d. jungle".

Here in the safe confines of Tomatoville, I find many like minded people....who are obsessed in their own way with growing maters and other veggies. I don't have to apologise for the fact that I'm a bit of a seed addict...because there are many more here with far more varieties in their seed stashes.

I've been to 5 of Remy's gatherings I think....and can say its nice to hang out with people that don't think you're totally nuts for talking to your plants or anxiously waiting for the fruits of our labours to ripen....or that I get a kick out of cooking with all the proceeds of the garden. Where else could I have released my other obsession for recipes without getting booted? LOL I've reined that obsession in here, but have been at work on writing a cook book...as well as a children's book. So that's part of the reason I haven't been on much lately. But like family, it doesn't seem to matter to most of the inhabitants of Tomatoville whether or not somebody isn't always there daily, weekly or regularly.

So yeah...I think I've well over the scale of 1 to 10 on the weirdness scale meter. And I don't have a problem with that. LOL

There are a lot of really driven people on this site. Some just with gardening and some who I suspect can be pretty intense about a lot of things in their lives.

They're the kind of people who look at normal everyday things and have to take them to the next level. To me, that's just plain fun! And having everyone here doing it all together is just amazing because you end up learning so many really cool things that the the less "weird and obsessed" might never even dream about.

And then, of course, there are people like Worth. Worth, you are definitely worth the price of admission! I'm not sure eccentric really covers it!
