I picked em'. Some minor disagreements on the subject...but I get the point. Didn't want to lose my first "special prizes". I will experiment with futures. The term "vine ripened" seems to be a bit subjective...realizing that a day shorter or longer can hurt/help. Thankyou for advice.

Your neighbor had a pet turtle roaming free around the neighborhood? That's a new one on me!
We had an indoor box turtle that we captured and kept for a while when we were kids. (Maybe eight inches long? Not too big) Many days, as soon as it heard my Moms soap operas come on, it would shuffle over and sit in front of the (large floor model) TV, watching intently. He would move his head to follow certain people with his eyes if they moved across the screen. I have no idea why he liked soap operas over everything else. The only thing I could think of was that they had that weird dramatic music and they didn't have a laugh track, so the people sounded more like they were real people talking? At Ocean Isle NC, where we vacation every year, there is a guy with a large tortoise. I haven't seen him, but my family was telling me that he has a special trailer with a ramp for the tortoise. Apparently, he brings the tortoise down to the main pier and takes him on walks there pretty often. Sorry for the turtle highjack! They are just kind of fascinating to me. |

If there is blush on the fruit (color) then pick them if you are afraid of critters or disease. Put them on a sunny window sill to ripen. I did this all season thus far and the tomatoes have ripened very nicely and taste great.
