FINALLY! Something I can pick and be proud of!
After starting late this season, here is what I was finally able to pick from my garden today! I'm so incredibly excited that my tomatoes are starting to turn red! I've had green tomatoes for a little over a month now, and finally picked a bunch off to give to a friend of mine to make fried green tomatoes with. (She traded me some red tomatoes that I made tomato soup with!)
The two top right are from my Beefsteak tomato plant, which I picked last week when they were green. This is the only tomato plant I didn't start from seed (I got it at Home Depot for $10!!) The green tomatoes have been sunbathing on the windowsill all week. The top left is my very first tomato grown allll on my own! It's like a magic trick to me, honestly, I can't believe I helped make that! Anyway, that's a German Johnson, and it's gorgeous! The smaller are cherry roma tomatoes, which started turning red a couple days ago, and I was finally able to get a small handful of them all in one fell swoop. The rest are medium green chile peppers! I have three of those plants growing (also from seed) and had no idea they would be so prolific. They were slow to grow, which I suppose is normal, but then they just exploded with peppers! They smell incredible, especially with the heat of the day still on their shoulders. Mmmmm.... The red peppers are sweet gypsy peppers that I am growing in a container on my porch. This plant isn't as prolific, and I wonder if it's becoming root-bound. I think I need to buy him a bigger home and some more compost so he gives me more delicious peppers. Still waiting on my California bell peppers to grow a bit more, they're pretty tiny still. The Garden Peach, German Johnson, Beefsteak, and Romas are loaded with green tomatoes- hopefully we'll get some stable weather for these badboys to ripen up in! Also, my corn is tasseling, 3 weeks before I thought it would, and already some of the silks are turning purple/becoming pollenated! I just wanted to share some of my first successes in gardening! It's been a LONG summer of waiting longingly, looking at my neighbors' plants with envy! I am, however, proud to say that I appear to be very good at growing green leaves! |

Thank you! My husband made some super spicy grilled jalapeno poppers last night, sadly too hot for me (he used really spicy cheese too!) They were amazing! I'm trying to decide what to do with this GJ monster that has brightened up beautifully on my counter since I posted this photo. Yummy!
