I would also add that it's possible they are targeting the part of the life cycle where the CPB lives in the ground as a larvae. The dust on the tuber would keep the larvae from chewing on the potato there in the ground.
I don't know if that is what is actually happening, just my thought on this. Personally I don't usually grow potatoes but I do grow eggplant and can have big issues with CPBs on the eggplant plants. I try not to use anything as toxic as the neonics as other things have worked for me. We found out by accident many years ago that a good population of Lady Bugs on the eggplant plants when the CPB eggs are just hatching will cut down a lot on the CPB population. The Lady Bugs will eat the small larvae just like they eat aphids. JME, Carol |
