Ooo, I'm envious! I am trying not to overbuy this year because I still have so many seeds from last year, but browsing J&L's website I saw at least half a dozen varieties I'd love to try. Pearly Pink Cherry, for one. It's nice how many are "compact", too.
I've got Ambrosia Red, Sugar Drop, Copper Currant, and Starfire Isis going in my seedling tray. Oh, and Kazachka. Last edited by tlintx; February 2, 2014 at 05:29 PM. Reason: forgot one |

I know a lot of people have had bad experiences with E-Bay but I've purchased seeds from sellers on E-Bay and haven't had any issues thus far.

I have ordered these: Banded Amazon Royal Purple Rancho Solito Black Shadow But just yesterday I saw the Blue Ambrosia. Did not recognized this at the time of my order. Last year I ordered the Petit Chocolat, but my mites was faster. Give them a try this year. I must always be aware ordering not so much, because of my nice German customs. Don´t wanna make the envelope so thick. Simone |

I've never had a blue tomato but the ones that look like they've been dipped in blue paint are so pretty I'm tempted to try a few! You know, if you make two orders, that's two small envelopes instead of one thick one!

Simone, I'm sorry to tell you that Submarine Blush was fantastically sweet. My 9YO son kept it picked clean (unless I got there first.) It was fairly prolific, but the russet mites got it in the end. I'm sure that we didn't get to see its full potential. Oh my! You've done it to me now. I hadn't seen the Blue Ambrosia!

I am fighting against the mites since two years. I thought late blight is awful, but it is a birthday party in comparison to mites. But i wrote: please lie! Why couldn´t you... Hmm, i must consider about ordering again. I am fighting with my growing list right now, and I am happy for every variety which I can slip to 2015. Simone |

I am reading the rest of the thread with interest. I will add a final note on ebay. Really, for a couple of buck or three, what is there to lose? I have made many great purchases, and a few sales, on ebay. Now that I know, I will order from the other source listed. But for one of me there is a thousand folks who will just order and be exposed to an out of the ordinary tomato. This will spike their interest and they will learn more, maybe even wind up here on tomatoville. All gardeners follow their own path. All we can do is to be there IF they ask. |

Could not write anything without being moderated. Very weird. I really must consider buying anything new, space and time you know. Did you buy the Blue Ambrosia? Simone P.S. I forgot: the Banded Amazon germinated!!! |

Simone,
I recently listed the Blue Ambrosia because I wanted to get it out there this season, make sure it is stable and see how it does. Earlier, I sent out a few sample packets of it labeled 'Ambrosia Bronze', but I think I sent you my Esmeralda. Blue Ambrosias should have that unusual spicy foliage scent and purple stems and people who got it may want to select for those traits at the seedling stage. Growing a new variety can be quite an adventure, and I appreciate all those willing to take a chance and save precious garden space for one. Lee |

Lee,
no, you didn´t sent me the Esmeralda. I just ordered these - this year - from you: Banded Amazon Royal Purple Rancho Solito Black Shadow I like growing new varieties, even non stabe varieties, as I did in the past with a lot of Tom Wagner varieties. Hopefully you will offer the Submarine Blush Cherry and the Blue Ambrosia next year again. Perhapy I may buy them and lay them beside, but I am not sure, because I wanna be part of the Dwarf project again this year. It´s always tricky, to find the right path between fulfill your addiction and not to collapse beside your tomato plants. Simone |
