I agree that the first part of the show was actually rather tedious and there was no way (like there is on U-tube) to zip through to find the good stuff.

I've always enjoyed listening to Bryce Lane because he has given some excellent presentations at various Master Gardener (and other gardening) conferences in NC. His enthusiasm is contagious and I tend to forgive him for talking about the boring stuff on his programs as there's always something to learn.

Craig's book will be awesome!!!!

Linda you dont have to be sorry for another mans cross the bear.
It not the mans fault it is my own.
It is something I just cant put my finger on.

I can say very cautiously that I met a real live PBS TV celebrity once on a job I was doing.
It was at the George Washington Carver Museum and Library in Austin Texas and we were remodeling the library and building the museum.
I used to watch this person on TV all of the time and respected her.
Then I got to see here in person and she was horrible.
She was African American and the museum was all about how her descendants were treated.

I will just say she started yelling and screaming at the immigrant workers doing the landscaping like they were dogs.
They spoke no English but they knew she was yelling at them.
I walked over and told her that she was out of line and if she had a problem she was to go to the general contractor like a professional.
And not to treat people like garbage like her descendants where treated.

She stormed off.

Well anyhow it seems as I always have a story to tell but I have been around awhile and have a good memory.

Scott I put two zip ties on from opposite sides so they cross each other. I pull them tight with a pair of pliers and they don't slip. Even with just one zip tie they usually don't slip even when just pulled hand tight. The angled pieces of conduit that are driven into the ground are usually fastened to the verticals with at least 3 zip ties pulled really tight since they are what really makes the structure solid.

A friend of mine drives his verticals into the ground much deeper than I do but his trellis is not as sturdy because he doesn't use the angled pieces for support. I have even fallen against my trellis a couple of times and they held up despite me being fairly large.

Why don't you just get the materials to make a trellis for just one bed or two rows of tomatoes and try it and see how you like it. I started by just making one but once I saw how well it worked I started making them for all my tomato and pepper plants. I can just hang a piece of fence wire on a small section of it and have a very nice support for cucumbers also.

Love to see a pic of your support pieces, Bill. I think one of your pics didn't "take" on your original post.

I don't know what is going on with the pics now. I uploaded 4 pics but when I previewed only two were showing. I tried over and over so maybe something has changed in the way you are supposed to post pics. I tried to post a couple of pics and they uploaded but don't show in the preview so I don't know if they will be here when I submit this post.

If they don't I'll try to explain it better. Once the trellis is constructed I take various lengths of older conduit that I have usually between 4 and 6 ft long. I place one next to a vertical piece and drive it diagonally into the ground until only an inch or two is extended past the vertical. I then repeatedly apply zip ties to the two pieces pulling them tight with pliers. I alternate the direction in which I place the diagonal supports in order to give it greater resistance to wind or me leaning on them accidentally.

That is crystal clear, Bill, even without the pics. Thanks.
