Doing the Happy Dance!

Pah. Went up to minus three last week, people were out in their shirt sleeves exclaiming it's summer at last. Then it even rained for a few hours... after ice pellets, sleet and snow. And froze again. Twice. People were digging out their cars with pickaxes. And then followed up with some arctic gales. Oh yes, the 'thundersnow' system is due to hit us next, tomorrow afternoon, in one form or another. We get everybody's leftover weather! And then some.

The soil in my greenhouse containers is frozen solid. Only leeks are surviving in the frozen ground. It was over 50 F in the greenhouse one day, but only thawed the top inch or so of soil. Major deep freeze! Hope it killed the last pest!!!!!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is in the forecast for next week.

It is 6pm and it is not zero, it is 42!!!!

This Thursday's projected ice storm doesn't matter.
Next weeks' 5 days in the low 20's again doesn't matter.


Because for the next three days IT. IS. MELTING!!!

I can grow tomatoes all year round where I stay....

Nah, I love skiing and cross country and skating and winter walks. Normally snow is a nice change of pace.
Its just....60+ inches this season...a cyclical polar vortex pattern for months... far too many far below zero days....

Its not that I hate winter. Its just that this one has been a little long and a little extreme and it is time for it to end.

This is our forecast for tomorrow. It made me laugh.
"In the morning: rain, ice, which could be freezing rain and sleet, thunder, as well as some snow," ABC7 Meteorologist Mike Caplan said. "The afternoon looks all liquid up to an inch+ of rain, strong thunderstorms, really crazy temperatures -- it could be 55 in southern parts of the viewing area, 35 up along the Wisconsin area. Fog." By Thursday evening, it'll be cold, windy and more snow will fall, Caplan said.

When I was a kid in Buffalo we'd be running around in shorts and t shirt when the temperature hit 50°. Today in my neighborhood in SoCal it was 70° and I had to put on a coat to walk the dogs.

LOL Irv. Yeah I tried to battle my son to put on a coat today for our 43 degrees. He won and went out with a sweatshirt and was fine. Really I was only nagging about it because I didn't want the school to think I was a slacker mom. When I drove up and saw half the kids doing the same and I relaxed.

My wife and kids have never seen snow. When I grew up (at the coast) we always used to have our holidays in the Drakensberg.... so I've played in snow and been snowed in ... nothing to the degree that you guy's are experiencing...... never been skiing though.... and would like to treat the family to a snow filled holiday, someday. My wife grew up inland so their holidays were always at the coast.. beach. I've had enough of the beach as a child but still try for the kids enjoyment to have a beach holiday now and then. I must say that I do not envy your weather conditions at the moment. We are now heading into Autumn and then our winter, which in this area will be around 26 degrees C day time and dropping to around zero degrees some nights.. could have a few mornings with frost, other wise that is about it.
