tomato watering

I grow tomatoes in 5-7 gal. containers. The first tomato was lost to tomato blossom end rot. I water every 3 days ( eg. sat am to tue am ) , deeply. Is this too long between waterings; what should it be? Thanks!

I think you may be underwatering. I would do it every day in a container that small.

Most of the time BER is not really from a calcium deficiency, its from uneven watering so the plant can't get enough of the available calcium, but that usually refers to ground plantings. What is the pH of your containers, and have you added any dolomite lime to the mix? What is your mix made of?

Paste/plum types generally get more blossom end rot. First tomatoes on a plant, for me, generally get more blossom end rot.

A possible solution...3 to 4 inches of mulch helps keep soil moisture a bit more constant.
