Default Dixie Golden Giant!

I grew Dixie Golden Giant this year. It got a rough start on the season by suffering damage from a late freeze. The damage caused it to be about three weeks behind most of my other plants in blooming and fruit setting. As a result, it only has one medium sized, green tomato on it. It grew in the same bed with KBX and Orange Minske and both produced lots of great tomatoes.

I don't like to give up on a plant after only one season. Since it had such a rough start, I am considering growing it again.

I would appreciate any comments you may have about the variety from your experience.

Thanks

Ted

Love it! I thought it was quite a productive plant. The Largest was about a pound and half (next to the gary'o sena with the quarter.

Yes, I've grown it and it would have been one of the varieties included in my book but the plants that grew out were not what it should be, so it's listed in the page before the pictured ones start along with some others that weren't available for photography.

And I haven't grown it since then, then meaning the late 90's.

Fact is that since then there are quite a few I prefer in that color class, and a beefsteak. It's why I never give a list of faves since the more varieties one grows, the greater are the comparisons to be made, and newer ones displace former faves.

I am growing several yellow/orange slicers this year - KBX, Sweet Ozark, and Zheltyi Delikates - and will make some decisions based on taste test. I am tending toward these tomatoes because they are beautiful and always the most popular among my clientele - meaning my family and church members who get them free.
