Default Greetings to Dr. Carolyn Male

Carolyn,
I have been a kind of stranger to Tomatoville, thanks for reading this. I check in and read threads and usually find an answer to my questions without posting......
I have been a follower of yours for years and have learned so much about open pollinated tomatoes since first finding you on Garden Web in the middle 2000's...
I am so happy to find you doing well and still loving life and your passions....
The Prue seeds you sent a man named Gary here in the Kansas City area, around '05, I saved and since have acclimated to our garden and are my wife's favorite tomato. The NAR seeds you sent me produced the largest tomato I have ever grown. 2 1/4lbs..........As learned from you,....taste has become my priority, I am still amazed at the taste, size and plant vigor and health when following your kind and extensive knowledge........You are mine and thousands of others mentor....Thank You from the bottom of my heart. Your teaching, kind Spirit and knowledge will live on in all of us and especially our hearts.
One of this yrs. Prue has attained an enormous size and I will be weighing it soon, a double, seemed two have fused together, or do I have a record Prue..LOL.....is this something you are aware of in the variety? I know it happens, just not sure how,............
Tom..........................................

Tom, what a surprise to find a thread title with my name on it/

And I'm so glad you've gotten some seeds from me that worked out for you. As you know I was making an annual seed offer at GW for quite a few years, but when I moved here when Tville started in Jan of 2006 I continued to make an annual seed offer here, usually put up in the first week or so in Jan.

But it's much more elaborate than what I used to do at GW and if you go to the Trade seed Forum and look for my past Jan offer and ones before you'll see that I'm offering varieties new to all or most, with some faves in there as well/

I no longer can grow my own tomatoes after I fell Dec 12th, 2004 andhave touse a walker but have had some wonderful folks who do thegrowing for me after I send them seeds and they send back seeds for me to offer.

Am I doing well? Well yes, if one considers fingers , mouth and the tomato section of my brain, but the rest of the body not so well, but I'm not going to get into that.

This next seed offer in Jan of 2015 will be the last one I'll coordinate, I was 75 this past June and it's now time for me to hand it over to someone else, and that someone else is a teacher in VT, who is retiring, is tomato savvy and I know he's going to do a great job.

My task is to locate, as always, as many varieties that I can that will be new to all or most and that has led to making some wonderful friends from many countries as well. And there are owners of several seed companies who also send me seeds to offer/

About Prue. I love it, it's one of the few tomatoes I can ID by aroma alone. And the plant has always produced fruits of different sizes and shapes, it originated with Tom Galucci who posts here, so no,it doesn't surprise me at all that it produced a double/

So thanks again for stopping by.

Carolyn, who had an interesting afternoon being interviewed by the Features Editor of the Albany, NY Times Union. We talked for almost THREE hours. She drove up here from Albany and since I can't be the happy hostess I told her where to stop and buy lunch for both of us and I'd pay. She said that can 't be done, she has to submit her expenses to the paper. She arrived on the dot andhad stopped whereI suggestged and bought what I wanted which was curried chicken and rice and grasshopper frozen pie with fudge sauce and real whipped cream/ Then she said she wanted to pay for both of us. I really must find a reason for her to drive up here again so I can get the Mushroom Mornay, fact is I no longer can drive my own car but someone else drives it if there are MD appts/ And now for some tennis from Canada to smooth out since talking for that long can tire one, you know.

Ditto the above and I never looked back.

Carolyn

For years, I grew the run of the mill, Hardware store varieties. Then I was given your book for Christmas one year. That next spring, I grew my first heirlooms from seed. And I have never looked back! Now trying 10 - 20 new varieties a year. So in short, "Thank you! "
