The media here is saying that attendance at all the Remembrance Day Services was much higher than recent years. The service at the National War Memorial in Ottawa was attended by more than 100,000 people which is way up on past years. Many replied when asked that the recent 2 deaths by home grown terrorists motivated a lot of people to attend. One of those had been killed while standing guard duty at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.
On the 11pm news they mentioned that they placed the last of the ceramic poppies in London at the Tower of London today during services there. One for every 888,246 British or Colonial fatality in WWI. Tomorrow an army of volunteers will start dismantling the art installation. When some people said they'll miss it, the artist said that was intentional, like missing the fallen. Each have already been pre-sold with the proceeds going to charity.

Something I read a few years ago - directed at younger folk:
"If you can't remember, think!"

Although that might have been directed at younger folk, I think it could apply to any one. Especially in this day and age of information available online that might be from questionable sources.

I just gave a history lesson to some younger guys today.
About how Germany's owed foreign countries tons of money were livig high off the hog and it ended up in a war during the depression when they called in their loans. The guys are bright they easily were able to compare our dept which is mostly held by China. And how we too are for the most part spending the same way. Scares the hell out of me. Worth |

It's good that we have a special day to remember the fallen, but even more important to remember everyday the veterans who are survivors and who should be cherished, thanked, appreciated and given every support that they may need. Hard to find the words that are not "political", but in Canada the treatment of veterans in the past several years is an outrage. The most basic supports that we expect our veterans to receive have been taken away. I just wanted to say for my part, to any vets who happened to read this, please know that you are appreciated by ordinary folks, and we want and expect you to have pensions, benefits, care as needed, and veterans affairs offices to handle the business of addressing your needs. I signed a petition, there isn't much else I can do personally, but have no doubts....you stand tall! We are with you.

I agree with you whole heartedly bower. And at the risk of sounding too political, with the current government's agenda to cut benefits to our veterans in such a wholesale manner, we need to make this an election issue next year.
