Surprises are nice too, even if they are not Surpriz! I am tickled to see that the tomatoes continue to do well in the crushed shell salty ground. Just goes to show how tough they are! Looking forward to your taste tests eventually.

Me too! I think it's awesome. I'm wondering if next time the buggy bugs (nematodes) and nasty soil viruses will have found their way to the spots or is the inhospitable environment going to keep them away? Neither of these plants are resistant to our ground diseases (Nematodes, Fusarium, Verticillium, etc) but are doing well so far.

And I'm thrilled with the "surprise" plant even though it's not Surpriz.... lol. Just can't quite figure out how I planted something with anthocyanin (had to look it up) when I never opened any of the few seed packs that I have that could sprout something like that. But the mystery of some of the plants is a good part of the fun.... :-)

I can't wait to hear how they taste. You could be onto something new.

Will post pictures tomorrow. The one that was supposed to be Everglades is definitely Black and Brown Boar. Happy about that as we have another BBB plant and the tomatoes are really good. Pkus we will ve able to compare taste of BBB in the ground vs BBB in an swc.... :-)

The one that was supposed to be Surpriz is some kind of beautiful medium sized tomatoes so far with black (or blue) shoulder and green bottoms. Size so far is larger than indigo rose. Waiting for them to ripen... :-)

Ok, definitely will do that. They are not starting to ripen yet but I wouldn't think it would be too long.

The other plant in the ground is definitely Black and Brown Boar - some did ripen. Since we have a Black and Brown Boar plant in a container and one of the ones in the ground is Black and Brown Boar we will be able to do a taste comparison between in ground (with the fish) and container grown after all!

The only thing is I am going to wait until some of the BBB ripen on some of the trusses higher up for the in ground plant so that it will be apples to apples because the container plant is already ripening fruit higher up on the trusses. I want the tomatoes from each plant for the tasting to come from approximately the same area of each plant. Especially since most people think that the first ones lower down on the plant are not the tastiest. I don't think it would be fair to compare the first couple of ripe tomatoes from the in ground plant to the higher up ones on the container plant... lol.

Salt - Another update on Matts vs Everglades - The matts was just too huge to roll under the porch so it was left out in the elements (rain/huge wind) and the tomatoes didn't split (unlike the Everglades).
Somehow, I missed this one.

We have a lot of high winds especially March-through-June. That's definitely something to think about.
Thanks for the update.
