World's first black and white tomato plant created by British breeder

Sutton Seeds had previously created the the planet’s only black tomato and has now blended it with a white strain to create the monochrome fruit
A plant breeder has blended two varieties to create the world’s first BLACK and WHITE tomato plant.

Experts at Sutton Seeds previously made a strain called Indigo Rose - the planet’s only black tomato .

But now they have blended the Indigo Rose with a white-cherry strain to produce the black and white variety.

A spokesman said: “This year we have upped the ante by grafting Indigo Rose to a creamy-white cherry variety to produce the first black and white tomato plant.

“We promise amazement from your friends, neighbours and family, not to mention rather groovy salads and sandwiches.”

The hybrid plant is on sale now at £4 each.

Tomato experts at Sutton Seeds have a history for pioneering plants, having previously created the first ever black strain which they named Indigo Rose.

I am disapointed. They didn't really create anything. I thought they had a variety that was putting out black and white tomatoes.
Merely a grafted plant. You can do this with any colors or varieties you want rather simply.
I had triples growing last season, and I believe Delerium might have had a plant with 4.

I read the first link and they said the words create blended grafted and hybrid for the same plant.
None of these words mean the same thing.

Yeah, pretty amazing stuff. I'd like to try a paste tomato/jalapeño graft, I could call it a salsa plant and sell it for ridiculous prices

You are correct Charlie. OSU developed it. Sutton isn't claiming to have created it.
Yet another hack job by the Daily Mail. They are so bad, they don't even check their own reporting. Here is the article where they reported back in the spring that Sutton secured the UK selling rights.
