A Store Bought Hot House Tomato
Today, while shopping, my wife asked me to pick a tomato for hamburgers. I got 3 on-vine tomatoes. One is for saving seeds because I'm already tired of winter - and it seemed like the thing to do at the time.
Got home and looked up the tomatoes online http://www.pure-flavor.com/products-...-the-vine.aspx Hmm, Luna Sweets? So far, all I've found is what is on the site above. So I cut it open hoping to find seeds. I carefully dissected the tomato and yes, there are seeds inside. Next, the taste test. I cut 4 sections for my wife, 2 grandchildren, and myself. = Slightly acidic, mushy, blah, and our 5 year old grandchild got this look on his face that made me remember those "Bitter beer face" commercials. He ran over and spit it out in the trash. I took pics and am saving seeds. If anyone knows anything about this tomato variety - I'd like to know more. Oh, if this needs to be moved to the Photo section - please do so. Happy New Year everybody. |

I think Luna Sweets must be a brand name they are trying to promote. It's the newest thing with produce. The actually variety will be a commercial hybrid of some sort, at least I would presume.

It's funny that with all the great tasting varieties of tomatoes available we have to save seeds from a store bought one. I did the same thing recently with Campari tomatoes.

I do it because most of today's varieties are a disease just waiting to happen.
