Good sleuthing work! I went to Tania's and couldn't find anything about "Russian Black Cherry" so I gave up.

So it's the same animal. Interesting!

I think even if they are the same plant, it doesn't hurt to try a different seed. Mine came from a commercial seed vendor who I have had plenty of seed not turn out true from. I will continue to buy from them - but with the knowledge not every seed will turn out true.
If these seeds were grown in Russia for some time, I imagine they might have adapted over time to slightly cooler temperatures, so I will be willing to try them for that reason.

I grew Black Cherry last summer in the ground. In the best part of summer (July) they coloured up nicely to chocolate and were tasty. Later (in August and September) they were beige with traces of green and little taste.
