I had one plant of this variety in my garden in 2014 and am looking to compare notes with other growers. Anyone? I just want to see if my results were similar to yours...

My plant produced like crazy and was one of the biggest plants in my garden. The fruit had great taste, however EVERY fruit was cracked. Was this normal? Or was it something I did?

Thanks....

Donna Marie, I was going to link you to Tania's page for this one, but the pictures, except one, are not coming up, but what I see is a long yellow bananna shaped yellow fruit with a small nipple, a commercial Russian variety, best used for paste or cooking, as Tania comments.

Many varieties develop cracks, so could you share with us where those cracks/splits are? Most pastes don't show splitting at the stem end, which would be radial or concentric splitting, and most pastes I've grown don't show horizontal splitting either.

But if there was lots of rain in your area last summer, anything could have happened,

Carolyn

Thanks Carolyn. I had already accessed Tatiana's page last year. I just wanted to see if my results were typical in growing this variety.

The splits were length-wise - on about 95% of the fruit. the taste was fabulous, and I didn't mind the cracking except for the fact that something might have wiggled inside

Of course, I would rather have them without the cracks, and if it was just ME that this happened to, I would try to figure out what I did wrong.

My neighbors loved them!
