If you're worried about hiding the true cost, use this trick: a woman I knew did not want her husband to know how much it really cost to have her hair dyed at the beauty parlor, so she always paid for half of it with cash and half with a check.

The sad thing is, she would have looked much better with a brown paper bag :>)

Hi Adriana,

I am not at all worried, nor is DH.

He just doesn't understand the work and cost involved. My situation is like asking a two year old how much a house costs. Some may answer 2 dollars while others might say a "gazillion". I am the same way about car repairs. I don't know the difference between the cost of having a transmission replace or getting new breaks (well, I do now). I guess you can't know everything.

So far this year for my whole garden I've spent around two hundred dollars. And my water bill usually goes up at the most $35.00 for three months. That includes the whole garden and all the other veggies. Of course I donate my labor and all my fertilizer and mulch is free. I have it from my livestock operation. Of course I don't do things as nice as he did. I've kept better records the last few years and have did ok except the year the hail hit and of course would take a while to get over that if you added it too the years following. But just think it is good for you health and great eating. JD

Last year I had to buy a fence to keep the deer out and then another fence to go over the first fence to keep the ultra-destructive baby rabbits out. So I was out quite a bit just on protecting my garden.

But another thing to consider is if you grow organic produce like I do it usually costs more.

And the BIGGEST one. If you avoid just one disease with eating all of this good produce and getting out in the sun and fresh air you will have come out WAY ahead!

Probably money wise and definitely quality of life wise.

For me growing stuff is something I really love. It's something that money dosen't even come into play with. Gardening is like one of the last things to me that is just pure and beautiful and I love it and I can't wait to plant this season.

You know you love growing stuff when you just looked at your plants last night and the sun is coming up and you can't wait to go look at them again!

EB's are Earthboxes and yes MG is potting soil for the EB's.

LOL ah nope the beer is for the DH when he was building the support for the maters...he's an engineer so it's a tad overdone...imagine to football goals on either end of my yard...then toss in concrete.
