Now I'm at a complete and total loss as what to send Carolyn for her birthday.
By the 26th of June she should be off of her chocolate free diet.

The challenge with ALL forms of dark chocolate from chocolate Easter eggs to truffles to fudge to brownies to soft centered ones with orange or lemon or raspberry fillings, etc. has gone exceedlingly well, much to my delight.

Same for cashews.

Not so much for some other foods, though. The latest blood tests showed that the liver and pancreatic enzymes as well as bilirubin values are pretty much back to normal, not all the way but almost there.

Now my MD is carping about my A1C numbers, that's a 3 month retrospective of average glucose values. but I WILL send her a handwritten note telling her that I've it with the moving target of values now being used. As the years pass they lower the norms, which then leads to more folks being diagnosed with this and that, more drugs being sold and on and on. Just 5 years ago the A1c I have now was within normal limits.

Please excuse my mini rant but it isn't just for diabetes it's for blood pressure norms and many others.

WORTH, don't you DARE send me habenero jelly. Have some compassion will you? Want to disable me permanently, is that it? If I win the lottery I'm going to hire a drone to chase you down, I haven't decided if it will be in Texas or Alaska, and "take care" of you.

First on the drugs.
You are so right, they keep lowering the norm for everything to sell drugs.
I was shocked when my test results came back and everything was normal.
It isn't every day you see a 56 year old man that doesn't have at least something.

I wouldn't send you any Habanero jelly it was for your friends that wanted the super hot peppers.

Warning label, Carolyn do not eat (hot).

Carolyn

Last September my A1c was 11.7 and this last March it was 5.8 The only change that I have made was to eliminate wheat and wheat products from my diet. I am not a doctor but this has made a tremendous difference in sleeping and energy levels. I now sleep all night without getting up at all to go to the bathroom. This extra good rest really makes a difference in my daily life. This has worked for both me and my brother who is diabetic also. It cost absolutely nothing to try it and it might work for you also. Just say-in

Worth, how kind of you to care so much, but I am NOT aware of Freda or her son or her nephew having the SAME birthday that I do.

That's interesting and I've never heard of doing that.

As it is now Martha cooks me a hot bfreakfast when she's her, usually hash and two over light or instant cereal with fresh fruit on the side.

But she also prepares many sanwiches for me for each day like ham or turkey and cheese with onion, or tuna fish, and they are kept in a small Coleman cooler here in my bedroom, and allthose are on whole wheat bread.

Freda does weekends and doesn't cook. I get fresh subs from the local convenience store and ask for them on wholewheat buns.

Hmmm, something to think about but I dislike white bread.

I would like to jump on this band wagon on the topic re: wheat. I am prediabetic with a1nc is 5.7 so been researching and saying to eat whole wheat, whole grains, etc etc. I can't eat too much white rice/white bread. I am confused!! What can I eat?

I hate to mention it, but there is plenty of wheat in white bread too. To avoid that, one has to eat bread made from rice flour or something equally disgusting.

Whole grains presumably digest slower, and don't spike the blood sugar as fast as rice and white bread etc.

What do you want to use it for? If you want it for purposes of spamming members, well that is not cool and I would be extremely disappointed in forum moderators if such accessibility were allowed. If, however you would like to contact individual members about forum related items, you can do that through their profiles.

Carolyn

I eat NO bread of any kind. NO cakes, pies, or anything made with wheat of any kind. I eat oatmeal, cornflakes, rice chex all with no wheat. I am thinking that my BLTs will be in salad form with Mayo as dressing. I also love a beef bologna, lettuce, tomato, and cheese sandwich and probably will try that in salad form with no bread also. The food pyramid is totally off base and is what is contributing to the obese epidemic in the USA. My waist was a 42 and now is a 36 and I have lost 35pounds and not gone hungry even one time. This may not be for everyone but has been a life changer for me. YMMV

Your MD is the person to ask about that. Almost any primary Care MD I've known has leaflets in the office that outline what a diabetic diet should be like and most will also offer to refer you to a diabetic educator resource person.

Since my mother had diabetes, her sister, their mother lost a leg to it I was quite familiar with what one should or should not eat.

However, that's somewhat theoretical since I don't know ANY diabetic who follows those suggestions strictly. I did for the first few months after I was diagnosed but then l lapsed. but not that much since I always did my glucose testing and my MD was following up with testing this and that as well as general health.

I just wanted to add to what I wrote above.

I got out the results of my latest tests and the range of normal is:

4.0 to 6.2 so I don't see how someone said you were pre-diabetic at 5.7 when that falls well within the normal range and I'm also assuming that it was also a fasting blood sample, but the when the A1C is a three month retrospective just one value can be discarded anyway IMO.

Every one that isn't diabetic is pre-diabetic.

The proper word should be borderline diabetic.

I know, I am very annoying on using the proper nomenclature.
For me I dont eat enough wheat to amount to a hill of beans.
I will make a small pan of biscuits eat one and give the rest to the diabetic crows outside.

I still dont think the food pyramid is off I think the problem is lethargy with people, children especially.

Lets face it you dont get a lot of exercise shooting down people with a remote control on a video game.
I have yet to get out of breath or have my heart rate go up using my thumb and fingers.

It is real easy to find a parking spot in the back of a parking lot.
The young person waiting for someone to load groceries right up front while I am waiting just so I can get to the empty places 200 feet farther down the row.
Are you kidding me, get out of the way you pencil legged pot bellied lazy brat.
