Default You Might Be Addicted to Tomatoes

Some things just tell you - you might be addicted to tomatoes. Today, while trimming 65 tomato plants, I knocked a tiny green SSC 100 tomato off the vine. It was green and a little bigger than a popcorn kernel... so I ate it! After all, it was there.

Nobody was looking

I thought eating uncooked green tomatoes was bad for you.

My wife's aunt and uncle make spicy pickled green tomatoes from all the green cherries when the frost is coming in the fall. After having some this winter I know what we'll be doing with all those green cherries that I otherwise threw away in the past. Delicious!

I am more addicted to growing them than eating . It is fascinating to start from tiny seeds and get plants that get 6ft+ with fruits of different colors. It makes me high. :-)

I agree. I love eating them but there is something amazing about growing and creating new tomatoes.

For me this started when I ate a tomato my painting teacher had grown on his farm in VA. I now know that it was a Cherokee Purple. I realized that the only way I would have a steady supply of great tomatoes would be to grow my own. I am an addict....

I'm not addicted at all. I can stop anytime that I want. Just not right now, okay? Maybe later...

Seriously, I've often wondered what it would taste like to take those green cherry tomatoes at the end of the season and make something like fried green tomato poppers... hmmmm. You'd probably need a deep fryer to do it right.

Like a couple of others have said here; It's the growing of tomato plants and the challenge that each season brings that really makes me happy. I love growing from seed, it's the only way to go!
I grow giants for competition and that really gets me going. This season besides the 30 plants I have for giants I have another eighteen growing of different heirlooms and OP's.
It's the largest number of tomato plants I'll have in my garden to date.

I can't wait to get them in the ground!!! YAY!!

I will add to this thread.. I LOVE to collect tomato seeds, love to start them, and planting them out. And nothing is more fun then walking the garden twice daily (at least) to see the growth, the color change, the ruffling, the plants become more wispy or curly. It's quite amazing.

Then picking the tomato. Woah. A little salt and pepper.... In love!!
