The Early Goliath-Totally Tomato mystery solved..
I always grow Goliath and Early Goliath, and Big Beef as my mainstay Hybrids. They just produce wonderfully, and taste great year after year in my gardens.
All looked good at germination, but Early Goliath looked different. At pot up, I noticed she had developed Potato Leaves. Funny thing, I wasn't exactly sure. Not exactly potato leaf but close. Finally a week after plant out, she really showed it. It was potato leaf. AND SETTING FRUIT three weeks after! I was really surprised as all my others were just getting flowers to open. Well, A letter came from Totally Tomato yesterday explaining why. Early goliath was discontinued by their supplier!! They substituted it with Early Choice! IN A EARLY GOLIATH PACKAGE! They did not mention this when shipped and apologized in the letter. They mention they are looking for a suitable replacement for it at this time. ok...They DID send a coupon for $5 off my next order! I thank them for that. It's disappointing when you're not getting the tomato you expected. Early choice is clearly not as big and not the tomato for the purpose I needed. Oh well, Hopefully I get some next year! Mystery solved!! Oh, they also sent a pack of Jetsetter seed....for next year! Anyone else get a letter yesterday? Greg |

That must be dissapointing. At least they are trying to make up for the error. I am trying Big Beef this year, for the first time-it is a strong, robust plant.
