Default SunGold 2015

A commonly held belief is that SunGold cracks when you look at it. In the oast mine cracked more than other cherries but nothing outrageous. This year I bought my plants rather than grow these from seed and even through all the rain we have had I have not had a single cracked SunGold. And mine are all in SWC's (One in an Alaskan Bucket & one in an Earthbox. The skins seem thicker as well but the taste is outstanding as always. May be the developer tweaked the cross to bring more crack resistance to the mix?

It's a Japanese variety so it would be up to them to fiddle. I think if they'd made a significant improvement they'd have released it under a new name and marketed it heavily, as cracking is a known issue with Sungold. Glad to hear you're having better results though, regardless the cause!

I have had one cracked fruit out of over 100 so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Mike your thread just made me reach over and eat another Sungold.

It makes all of the hard work worth every bit of it.

*jealous* I'll be lucky to have tomatoes by July 4th!

I JUST planted my tomatoes last week. I'm a few weeks later than I'd hoped but everything was so wet this spring.

I had some commercial seed that I got from Sample Seed back in 2010. It had pretty good germination percentages and I managed to get 5 plants from 7 seeds. Remy has always had good seeds.

Anyhow, I'll let you know how they taste.
